In Review: Yeat's "My wrist (ft. Young Thug)"

Young Thug and Yeat came together and dropped the highly anticipated track “My wrist” on May 26th after it had been previously teased on Instagram in 2020.

SOUND

The renowned producer Pi’erre Bourne is responsible for crafting this particular track. With a track record of creating hits for notable artists like Playboi Carti, Lil Uzi Vert, and Drake, Pi’erre Bourne has solidified his reputation in the music industry. Young Thug delivers captivating vocals with an infectious timbre, complemented by Yeat's distinctive rap style. Together, they form a formidable presence within the trap community. Pi’erre Bourne incorporates his signature stuttering claps and snares, characteristic of a typical trap beat, but distinguishes it with his unique synth melodies. The juxtaposition of the darker, more foreboding echoed synth with the lighter-sounding melody creates a seamless fusion. Additionally, Pi’erre sprinkles light sound effects, such as a bell, throughout the track, effectively captivating and maintaining listeners' attention. In terms of sound quality, this collective effort earns a solid 8/10 on the Intersect Rating Scale.

LYRICS

These two use this track to describe their material and conceptual wealth. Young Thug says, “Look at my wrist, look at my fist,” referring to an expensive piece of jewelry on his wrist. He then raps, ‘Micheal Jackson in his prime”, comparing himself to the notorious King of Pop. In Yeat’s verse, he raps, “My money enormous, it's not normal, it's so tall,” showing listeners his impressive financial status. Young Thug and Yeat earn a 6/10 for their lyrics on the Intersect Rating Scale.

ART BEHIND THE TRACK

Both Young Thug and Yeat are very unique figures in the hip-hop and trap communities. They both have been able to reinvent the trap genre, influencing many younger artists. Although they have collaborated before, seeing how they adapt to each other's sound in their music is interesting. They earn a 7/10 on the Intersect Rating Scale for their art.

Overall, these two earn a 7/10 on the Intersect Rating Scale.
