Willy Chavarria's SS25 runway show, "América," was more than just a show—it was a statement. On the evening of Friday, September 6th, Chavarria took us to Wall Street for a striking blend of style, cultural identity, and political awareness.
Intentionally held on Wall Street, the heart of United States capitalism, Chavarria's show served as a strong demonstration of an immigrant's point of view on the United States.
The deliberately curated set featured a large American flag hanging from the ceiling and mini copies of the U.S. Constitution on each guest's seat –courtesy of the American Civil Liberties Union.
Kicking off with a performance by regional Mexican band Yahritza y Su Esencia, the show immediately highlighted the intersection of Chavarria’s Mexican heritage and his take on American identity.
Following the performance, the models walked out one by one at a pace that is very familiar to anyone who lives/works in not just New York City but any major metropolitan city in the United States. There's always somewhere to be, something to do, and something to prove.
The show consisted of multiple parts: Fine Fashions, Willy Produce, and Community Center—featuring bold tailoring, reimagined workwear, and pieces that referenced the United Farm Workers.
A surprise Adidas collaboration featuring wide-legged trousers and neon ruffled tops made a memorable impact, with Olympic gold medalist Noah Lyles closing the show in the sportswear.
The show perfectly captured Chavarria's vision of America and the need for it to be a diverse and inclusive space that not only serves as a home to multiple different cultures but also celebrates and highlights them.
