Sylvie's Face Card

Meet another face we love, Sylvie —a model, PR coordinator, and grad student whose life spans coasts, cultures, and creative pursuits. Born in Queens and raised on Long Island, Sylvie now splits her time between Brooklyn and Los Angeles, with deep roots in Port-au-Prince, where she spent much of her childhood. With five years in the modeling industry under her belt, she balances her career with school and a role in PR. A proud Capricorn, Sylvie thrives when working with her hands—whether she’s shaping clay, cooking, painting, or finding her flow in yoga and running. She draws inspiration from new places and feels most alive when traveling, a passion that her work fortunately allows her to pursue often. All in all, she's that girl.

When did you first get into beauty?

a. I was obsessed with Seventeen Magazine in elementary and middle school and would always make collages of all the beauty products I wanted to buy. I remember somehow convincing my uncle to take me to CVS when I was in 4th grade, and he bought me my first “haul”: a Venus embrace razor, Covergirl Lashblast, that Neutrogena Grapefruit Scrub, and so much more. I can’t imagine what he must have spent that day, but that’s definitely part of my origin story.

b. I never got deep into YouTube but I really loved Michelle Phan’s videos growing up. Overall, though, I have to give credit to my real beauty icon, my mom – I loved watching her get ready for work and would always mess around in her makeup bag.

What was the first ever beauty product that you were obsessed with?

I was never big on face makeup; I usually just wore mascara and a good lip. I had a red lip phase back in 2016; I couldn’t live without Nahz Fur Atoo matte liquid lipstick by Kat Von D. Shortly after, I moved on to Photo by MAC, a perfect brown lipstick I still use sometimes today.

Who are your current beauty inspirations in culture?

Pamela Anderson! I think she’s even more beautiful now than ever, but her OG looks were just as iconic as the natural one she wears more of today. I think it’s important to use makeup and beauty as a means of enhancement and not as armor – being able to feel just as confident with next to nothing on as you do with a full beat. I also really love Selena Ruiz, Raoul Alejandre, Pat McGrath, and Dennese Rodriguez Hermoso’s work from an editorial lens.

Now is the time for product recs! If you could only bring three beauty products with you on a two-month trip, what would they be and why(the must-haves)? Can you name three underrated beauty products that people should know about?

1. Futurewise Slug Balm

Hopefully, I’m going somewhere hot and tropical for 2 months – the humidity and sun do wonders for my skin, and a good tan is the best makeup. I’m bringing my slugging balm by Futurewise or any face oil with SPF.

Now give us one Sylvie exclusive beauty tip!

Skincare is trial and error for everyone, but I’ve found that, personally, less is more. A clarifying cleanser for daily use and an oil cleanser for your pores + removing heavy makeup at night.

Youth To The People Superfood Gentle Antioxidant Refillable Cleanser

I use Youth To The People Kale Greens.

Also, don’t be shy about moisturizing—especially before bed. I always layer a cream with a face oil to lock in the moisture.

Trader Joe's Vitamin E Oil

If I couldn’t use anything else for the rest of my life, as long as I have my $5 Vitamin E oil from Trader Joe's, I’m set.
