So, Tights Are Cool Again?

When I was a kid, my mom would make me wear tights with my dresses and school uniforms on winter days, and I absolutely hated it. I hated tights. I hated how close they stuck to my leg. I thought they were so awkward. But now it’s 2023, and tights are apparently cool. At first I was apprehensive of the trend, but I've come to realize how wrong I was about them. Not only have they proved to be stylish, but they're also super functional.

As the cold season arrives, it’s time to really start dressing. If you’re like me, you might prioritize fashion over practicality. Sometimes, my friends and family ask me, “But aren’t you feeling cold?” when they see my outfit. I will freeze or sweat for the sake of the outfit. But now that tights are trending, I may not have to feel the pressure to retire the miniskirts this winter.

Tights are undoubtedly making a resurgence. They’ve appeared on the Chopova Lowena, Ferragamo, and Miu Miu runway, proving their stance in high fashion. Leg warmers and stockings helped pave the way for tights reappearing in daily fashionwear. People are coming up with creative ways to style their outfits. There is a plethora of tights, from colored and patterned ones, that are becoming the star of the show. The other day, I wore white patterned tights and received strong reactions. Numerous people complimented my outfit, saying they loved how I made the white tights look cool. We have even seen icons such as Twiggy, Jean Shrimpton, and Alexa Chung wearing sports tights with their miniskirts or dresses.

Tights are a perfect layering accessory for any outfit to help you stay warm for winter. Most importantly, I realized when I wore my tights and received compliments that anyone could wear them. I had teens, adults, and moms approve of the tights I was wearing, demonstrating their generational appeal. I love that it adds a feminine look to any outfit. It would make Blair Waldorf so proud.

Not only are tights perfect for wearing under skirts and dresses, but they've actually shown up as the pants themselves. Yes, you read that right – people are wearing pantyhose as pants. This look has been seen on it-girls like Kendall and Kylie Jenner, Lori Harvey, and more. Some people believe that this trend was inspired by Kanye West's girlfriend Bianca Censori, but who knows. The most important thing is that you don't even have to wear pants anymore, clearly.
