London-based singer-songwriter Yuneki, just 17 years old, has released her poignant new single, "Sleepwalking." This marks her second official release, following the success of her debut track "Like Honey." Known for her raw and emotive style, Yuneki is quickly making a name for herself as a relatable voice for Gen Z listeners.
"Sleepwalking" delves into Yuneki's personal struggles with mental health, a theme that resonates deeply throughout the song. The artist describes the feeling of being disconnected from reality, likening it to moving through life in a state of unconsciousness. “Sleepwalking is about my struggles with mental health, how I was harming myself and the people who loved me the most, and how I wasn’t really present or in reality," she explains. Yuneki’s lyrics offer a candid look at the challenges of mental health, inviting listeners into her world with a sense of immediacy and openness.
Raised in Cambridge on a varied diet of pop, R&B, and soul icons such as Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu, Lady Gaga, and Beyoncé, Yuneki began writing lyrics at the age of 11, channeling her feelings into music as a means of coping with the challenges of fitting in. By 14, she was already working in studios, honing her craft and preparing for the professional music scene.
Her debut single, "Like Honey," showcased her storytelling ability and vulnerability, which led to her signing with 23 Recordings, a label dedicated to supporting alternative artists. Yuneki’s style blends the soulfulness of artists like Amber Mark and Jorja Smith with the Gen-Z relatability of Olivia Rodrigo and the poeticism of Arlo Parks.
