Press Play: Will Swinton Releases "December" EP

Rising New Zealand singer-songwriter Will Swinton has released his highly anticipated December EP, a seven-track collection that delves deep into themes of heartache, loss, and emotional resilience. Blending folk, rock, and indie-pop, the EP reveals a darker, more introspective side of the gravel-voiced artist as he navigates the complexities of love and longing.

December follows the success of Swinton’s debut EP Better Days and solidifies his growing reputation as a master of soul-baring Americana. With a voice that quakes and quivers, Swinton takes listeners on a journey through despair, desperation, and ultimately, acceptance. Tracks like the achingly intimate "Where I Belong" and the stirring "Hold You Again" illustrate his raw, cinematic approach to songwriting, while the upbeat "Need You Now" offers a rare moment of hope, powered by a lively mandolin riff and a full-band arrangement.

Swinton’s gravelly vocals take center stage throughout the EP, with each song serving as a personal reflection on his own emotional journey. As he puts it, December is a project he's “really proud” of, having poured his heart into the creation process. “I’ve never been so confident in my music,” he said. “We went through so many variations of this EP, and I couldn’t be happier with the final product."

The release is accompanied by the music video for the single “Flames,” which was directed by Brandon Chen. The dark and gripping video, along with several live-recorded clips from the EP, highlights Swinton’s expressive voice and his ability to connect with audiences on a deep, emotional level.

Earlier this year, Swinton completed his first U.S. tour as direct support for BabyJake’s Beautiful Blue Collar Boy Tour, a milestone that helped him connect with a growing fanbase. His previous singles, including "Fall Apart" and "Can’t Let Go," have garnered critical acclaim for their evocative lyrics and distinctive sound. The success of these tracks, alongside Swinton's rising popularity, has solidified him as one of 2024’s most exciting new talents.
