In Review: Kaytranada and Aminé's "4EVA" (ft. Pharrell)

Kaytranada and Aminé announced their upcoming joint album, KAYTRAMINÉ, on April 3rd, 2023. With this announcement, they released the first song that will appear on the album, titled “4EVA" (ft. Pharrell), which was expertly produced by both Pharrell and Kaytranada.


SOUND

This track is an electronic masterpiece, executed greatly by this powerful team of artists. It has a groovy beat, showcasing the talent of Pharrell and Kaytranada. The beat is built from a melodic electronic piano and enhanced by a fantastic bass line and snare drum. The vocal chops in the chorus are a perfect mix of input from both Pharrell and Aminé. The song ends with synth lines that are signatory to the Kaytrana sound, creating a stellar ending to the track. This group gets a 9/10 for sound on the Intersect Rating Scale.


LYRICS

Although this track is not extremely lyrically dense, it showcases Aminé’s ever-growing talent as a rapper. This track includes a plethora of impressive rhymes to draw fans into the Kaytraminé experience. He raps the steller line, “This KAYTRAMINÉ, we don't need no DJ”, alluding to Kaytranada’s successful DJ career. He also raps, “Finna be there for my sons like my name Steven Nash (Yeah), Or Booker, this a light cook up (Uh)”, speaking on the success of NBA players Steven Nash and Devin Booker. This group gets a 7/10 on the Intersect Rating Scale for their lyrics.

ART BEHIND THE TRACK

Many fans are ecstatic about this collaboration between Aminé and Kaytranada. To many, it provides a positive representation of the joy that dance music and hip-hop can bring. Bridging these two worlds will be interesting to experience when the album is released. This earns the group a 6/10 on the Intersect Rating Scale for their art.
