Paris Fashion Week was the perfect close to an action-packed Fashion Month. From Ottolinger to Off-White, these are our favorite shows of Paris Fashion Week FW23.
Ottolinger
Our Gen-Z dreams came to life watching Tyga, Avril Lavigne, and Halsey in the front row at the Ottolinger show. This season's theme has truly reflected the desire for wearability in fashion pieces. Rather than the fantastical elements we were getting used to seeing last season, a lot of the heavy hitters this month have been receiving such good reviews because of the way the everyday wearer can see the pieces on their body. Designers Christa Bösch and Cosima Gadient depicted this collection as ‘you are dressed for every evening of your life unfolding at once’. There's nothing more wearable than a collection made for every occasion. Many of the pieces were tops stitched together with different fabrics like denim or sequins that are different colors or multi-colored knit pants with skirts on top.
Ester Manas
Pieces in this collection were delicate, with soft draped edges hanging off the seams of sleeves and dresses. Almost entirely made up of dresses, the collection was the best kind of frilly, with see-through lace and cutouts to emulate the sense of desire that the romantic collection was inspired by. The pieces accentuated the models' curves while also bringing light to fashion made for fuller breasts.
Rick Owens
Playing with the silhouette, Rick Owens designed pieces that accentuated shoulders with puffy top heavy coats. Most of the looks carried their weight on top with bubble-like shoulder pads and scarves, exposing bare legs beneath paired with thigh-high leather platform boots. While much of the collection was crafted with darker tones, the pieces that were colorful used jewel tones and metallic pinks and greens.
Coperni
After Coperni went viral last season for spraying a white dress on a mostly naked Bella Hadid, there was a lot to measure up to. And while the clothes featured low-waisted pants with leather cut-out tops and red tights paired with black and white long-collared shirts; once again, everyone is talking about the use of technology with fashion. Robots walked down the runway with models, handing them accessories and even taking a model's jacket and holding it for her as she strutted the rest of the catwalk.
Off-White
Ib Kamara is the name on everyone's lips at his debut appearance for Paris Fashion Week. Kamara was also named Dazed Magazine’s chief in 2021; as both of these roles require the utmost care and attention, it is safe to say he has not disappointed in either. With big expectations from Off-White fans and Virgil Abloh lovers alike, Kamara understood the pressures, referenced past collections, and did not disappoint. Set against an intergalactic backdrop, models walked the deserted space land in black flowy dresses detailed with metal adornments that could be found on most pieces. Along the same vein of utilitarianism we've been seeing all season, puffer jackets featured thick furry belts, a silver metallic dress layered under a leather harness, and multiple pieces with huge zipper runnings across the front.
